Brittney Inabnit: Best Solo Board Games
Lita Thammorongsa: I cannot recommend any solo board games that take a long time to play, but I can give you some ideas for solo fantasy board games to play.DUNGEONQUEST. This is a classic dungeon-crawling game in which you try to find and escape a dungeon with as much loot as you can find. The rooms and corridors of the dungeon are represented by tiles that are placed on the board as you explore it. You have 26 turns to get out with as much as you can. If you don't escape within that time, or if a critter finds you and you are on its menu, then you lose! This game is highly suitable for solo play.MAGIC REALM. This old-school game from the late 1970s is excellent for solo play, and contains everything you need for a rich fantasy themed experience. The intricate mechanics of this tile-based game include wandering monsters, random! treasure troves, encounters with other sentient races, and even magic spells and enchantments. If you want a long game, this one is for you. This game is not for the faint of heart, however. The rules are long, complicated, and hard to follow at times, though they are broken down into several chunks so you can learn as many or as few rules as you wish. The artwork on the map tiles is great, but you really have to use your imagination with many of the other components. Finally, this game has been out of print for a while, so you may have to go to boardgamegeek.com or another bidding site to find an available copy.MUNCHKIN QUEST. This is another tile-based dungeon-crawling adventure game, but with a quirky sense of humor. If you have ever played the Munchkin card game, you will have a pretty good idea of what kind of humor you will find in this game. If you haven't, you are in for a treat! You will find strange weapons and gear, fight all kinds of wacky monsters, an! d try to escape with as much loot as you can. Can be played s! olo, though it plays much better with more players.RUNEBOUND: This fantasy board game is fairly easy to learn and play, and is highly suitable for solo play. A hex-based board allows for maximum maneuverability in the fantasy world of Terrinoth. Cards represent all manner of creatures, encounters, events, weapons, armor, magical items of all sorts, and even allies you can hire to augment your party. Tokens keep track of your character experience and level and related expanded abilities, health, fatigue, and money. The best part of this game, however, is the number of expansion sets available. You can pick up full expansions that have their own map boards and represent pirate, Arabian Nights, frozen waste, and even Central American jungle themes. Small card deck expansions allow you to change the victory conditions of the game, add items and allies to the town markets, and you can add monsters of different themes. You can even add special abilities to the characters,! though this part doesn't work well in a solo game. - LJS...Show more
Coleman Deliberato: Arkham Horror, it has lots of expansion packs, can be played with 2 or more players but is designed so that a single player can play alone.I have it and really enjoyed it but haven't played with any of the family yet, i got three of the expansions (The Dunwich Horror, The King In Yellow & One about a mummy) these mini expansions are good because one is about a mummy and the king in yellow is about a play you can have them as a permanent event or you can have them just visit so they are there for as many games as you like but then they move on somewhere else, there are 2 or 3 more expansions i haven't mentioned, and a new arkham horror game has come out which i have been told is very good but not like the original, so i would ask at your local games shop,Hope this helps....Show more
