Patrick Bitsui: OK most of the previous answers are correct. But there is one thing they leave out that is not usually discussed. We have separated the service to ensure that they cannot be used in a coup. The Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines each have their own chain of command and separate traditions. Look at a Country like China where the Peoples Army runs their Navy, and Air force. It could be and has been very easy to the PA to push the government of China around. That would not happen here as the other services would not stand for it. Same reason we have a Air National Guard. I mean can you see a Governor every calling out a B-1B or F-16 for state service? It all has to do with giving Each Serv! ice the particular Air Power they need and separating that power so no ONE service becomes too powerful....Show more

Lanita Reichman: Lavadog is dead on about the size of the C5. Watched a 747 taxi past one once from 1000 meters. Looked like it could pass under the wing of the C5. Used to live close to Travis AFB. When they are flying low they look like they are not moving.However, while the Army does not use the Huey the UH1N lives on in the Navy and Marines.Spent many Tuesdays sitting in the right door while my CO got his hours. Dwight Siniard: The C-5 Galaxy...because it eats helicopters and vehicles and when I rode in the passenger section up stairs the seats face the rear and to this day I still dont know why...The C-5 is one massive aircraft..

Wilbert Shellgren: The A-10 was always my favorite ever since having one open up on a down range target directly overhead. Of course it was an optical illusion because of the smoke, but it appeared that the cannon actually stops the birds forward flight when it fires. The Apache is a favorite ever since I found out that if you are in a position higher than the bird (on a mountain ridge) it can ascend and kill you and you will never hear it until the blades are at the same level as you. The F-22 is in a class by itself that nothing in the world can compare to. I saw one make a 90 degree turn in level flight without skid or sliding at all. The C-17 is the most awesome tra! nsport in the world and can do things no other aircraft can, with tremendous loads....Show more
